Northern Wrestling Federation

Founded in 1994, the Northern Wrestling Federation (NWF) has established itself as one of the premier independent professional wrestling promotions in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. For more than three decades, NWF has combined live events, wrestler development, and championship competition to build a reputation as one of the Midwest’s most respected independent organizations.

Since 1998, the promotion has operated under the leadership of Roger Ruffen, continuing a tradition of presenting family-friendly professional wrestling while providing opportunities for aspiring wrestlers to develop their skills. Through the BoneKrushers National Pro Wrestling Training Center, NWF has helped train numerous performers who have gone on to successful careers at the national level, including Karl Anderson, Abyss, and “Wildcat” Chris Harris.

Over the years, NWF has promoted hundreds of live events throughout the Tri-State area, earning a loyal following through its blend of experienced veterans, rising stars, and competitive championship wrestling. The promotion is also home to the annual Huskie Howard Memorial Scramble, held in honor of the late Huskie Howard—a respected wrestling personality, interviewer, columnist, and longtime contributor to WrestleOhio whose passion for independent wrestling left a lasting impact on fans and performers throughout the region. The tournament stands as a fitting tribute to his legacy while remaining one of NWF’s signature annual events.

Today, the Northern Wrestling Federation continues to be a cornerstone of independent wrestling in the Cincinnati area. With more than 30 years of history and a proven track record of developing talent, NWF remains one of the region’s most influential promotions while continuing to shape the future of independent professional wrestling.
