PRIME Wrestling presents a live television taping on Sunday afternoon, June 10th at Gargano’s Catering & Restaurant, 3482 W. 25th St. Cleveland, OH with a 3pm belltime.
Scheduled on the event is the return to Cleveland of the one-legged high-flying wrestling phenom Zach Gowen! Now, twenty years later, Zach has wrestled in WWE, TNA, ROH, Japan, and just about everywhere in between, dazzling audiences and inspiring youngsters along the way.

Professional wrestling, in some form or fashion, has been a staple of the SportsTime Ohio cable network since 2006. Over the years, it has seen many changes, facelifts, and alterations yet after this past week it was made known that pro wrestling on STO would finally hit its PRIME!

This news stems from a months-long power struggle between Commissioner Justin LaBar, arch-rival Marion Fontaine, and spokeman to Fontaine, Agent Aaron Maguire. After a series of questionable calls led to Fontaine & Maguire to cry “conspiracy” on the way they’ve been treated by LaBar, a full-on smear campaign against the Commissioner was instigated. After a series of closed-door meetings with upper management, Aaron Maguire found his way into a very powerful position.

To check out how the evolution and formation of PRIME took place, as well as action & appearances from such stars as Jimmy Jacobs, “M-Dogg” Matt Cross, “Handicapped Hero” Gregory Iron, Krimson, Nicki Valentino, Bobby Beverly, Michael Facade, Jason Gory, and of course Marion Fontaine, among many others, check out how pro wrestling on STO hit its PRIME this past Sunday at the video below.

Huskie: Tell us how you feel being back in the ring after being out for a little bit with a torn bicep.

Mason: Well as I prepare to go out there right now to face one of Ohio’s biggest and baddest Jason Bane, there’s no place I’d rather be…well, maybe Hawaii!!!

Huskie: How long have you been in the wrestling business and how did you get your start?

Mason: My first match was in March of 1999. I was given my first opportunity in the wrestling business at Wild Bull Miller’s IWA wrestling school in Columbus, Ohio. In many ways that place not only changed, but very well may have saved my life, and I owe SO much to Ol’ 1333 West 5th Avenue…even if it is a pizza restaurant now.

Huskie: How did the wrestling school save your life?

Mason: I was in a horrible place in my life at the time. After failing at high school basketball and trying to play in college to earn an education. I began to use drugs and alcohol in excess. The girl who I thought at the time I was going to marry broke my heart and my best friend was sent away to prison for ten years. Both of which happened in the same month. I felt alone, broke and without direction… until that is I saw the commercial on public access channel 21 that offered free tryouts! I don’t know what would of become of me had I not seen it. I mean that sincerely.

Huskie: WOW! Matt it sure is nice to see you were able to over come all of that are now one of the top five wrestler’s in Ohio according to Tom Williams. How do you feel about that?

Mason: That’s pretty humbling when you consider what a high regard I hold personally on this states talent. I feel we are VERY underrated but I don’t think I could consider myself in that elite of a class. It means a lot to me that he would though. I mean stop and think about the amount of talent he alone has had come through WAR! I remember feeling like I didn’t even belong in that locker room.

Matt Mason takes the fight to Tracy Smothers.

Huskie: He listed you in his top five along with Jake Crist, Aaron Williams, Kaden Assad and Krimson.

Mason: That is some amazing company! There’s probably twenty guys I’d put ahead of me. It’s still very cool to hear though.

Huskie: Now, A lot of fans may know you more as a tag team competitor, you and Robby Starr are known as The Hi-Def Supernovas. Tell us a little bit about how that team got started.

Mason: Kind of by accident in a way. He and I just held the OCW Heavyweight title back to back. Him, myself and Sherman Tank were watching each others back at the time in a feud with “The Empire” which culminated in a war games match where the winners would receive title shots of their choosing. We won and everyone assumed since Tank and I had tagged previously during the A-List days, that Robby would be making another run for the top spot. But we all agreed that Tank deserved that spot more than anyone and he capitalized on it. This left the tag straps for Robby and I to go after. We didn’t know if we would tag more than one time but it just worked. So we ran with it all over the state for three years.

Huskie: What was it like holding tag title for WAR, CAPW, and OCW all at the same time?

Mason: AWESOME…lots of pressure to prove we deserved them but I love that. Pressure drives me. Sure made our gear bags heavy though!

Huskie: Who are your influences in wrestling?

Mason: As a child I was a Hulkamaniac like everyone else. Savage is also huge for me because he was the first “bad guy” that I liked but knew I wasn’t suppose to. Steamboat, Flair and of course the greatest of all time Shawn Michaels.

Robby Starr & Matt Mason

Huskie: You have had some try outs for the WWE. Tell us a little about that and what that was like.

Mason: Yes I have had a few, even as recent as a few weeks ago in Cleveland and Columbus. RAW was very surreal even being there. Being in the same backstage area with The Undertaker, Triple H, HBK, John Cena and The Rock was extremely cool although the show itself was way too crazy for us to get any ring or promo time on Monday. However we spent priceless time with William Regal for “Q and A”, I learned a ton. Anyone that thinks they will stop learning or training in this world is an IDIOT. Thirteen years later and I’m yet to be around it in any capacity without learning! The next day in Columbus, before Smackdown myself and the other “extras” including Joey Vengeance received in ring and promo evaluations. I can’t tell you how cool it was to have had this experience with Joey. Eleven years ago I got my first “shot” at a WCW Nitro where I worked security and got to be on TV for a pull apart between Booker T and Scott Steiner. Unfortunately, Shane-O-Mac showed up on the next Nitro. My point being, getting even one shot is a blessing but to have had a few and to have been able to reflect back and at the same time be there in the moment for his first shot was awesome. Joey is young, hungry and full of natural ability. We got to work our evaluation match with each other and I gave all I had in order to get him a serious look. Only time will tell, but as I said before, just getting a call is rare and a extremely difficult thing to receive.

Huskie: How do you feel your try out went?

Mason: Same as the previous two. Not great, not terrible. I always do solid but don’t feel that I “WOW” them. Same way with the Ring of Honor match I did last February. I think I’m too careful and not enough of myself if that makes sense. Plus, I’m not huge or small so it’s had to get a read on exactly what you would do with me money drawing wise, judging in that way. Not to mention your never REALLY know what they want on that particular day.

Huskie: What is your favorite match that you have ever seen and what is your favorite match you have ever been in?

Mason: Seen, I’d have to say HBK/Taker 1 and as far as one I’ve been in, man that’s way too tough to name. Plus, I think my best match is still in me.

Matt Mason takes to the air!

Huskie: What’s your thoughts on Indy wrestling in Ohio?

Mason: Well, I see that you have asked this in several other interviews and I will say I’m in agreement with most if not all of those opinions…without being to long winded in my answer. I’ll just say this…the product is just flat out watered down. Way too many fans running shows and fans wrestling on shows. Most fans of wrestling don’t even know what an Indy show is and if they do they will maybe give a local show one chance to entertain them. Sadly most don’t, and they forever put a bad taste in the fans mouth about Indy wrestling as a whole.

Huskie: Who do you feel are a few of the best wrestlers in Ohio?

Mason: It’s just way too hard to list only a few. The state is loaded. But my number one is Matt Cross.

Huskie: What is your dream match?

Mason: Easy, myself vs. Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania! Realistically though, every Saturday is my dream match at this point. I do all I can to remember and remind myself just how lucky I am to even have the chance to do this on any level. I still get nervous and jacked up before my music hits, so when people ask how much longer I’ll keep doing this…I guess until that feeling goes away.

Huskie: If you could wrestle any where in the world, where would it be and why?

Mason: Whatever the biggest arena in Columbus is at that particular time. Right now, it would be Nation Wide. Who wouldn’t want to work at Madison Square Garden or The Staples Center or The Arena in Philly? But nothing…NOTHING beats the response you get from people that take pride in sharing the same area code as you. Home is home man, and for me that’s COLUMBUS!

Mason after another hard-fought victory.

Huskie: What would you like to achieve in your career?

Mason: Our art form is in a real rough period now, but let me tell you the future is very bright. I want to enjoy every single night out there that I have left, but more importantly help the next generation as much as possible to ensure that there will be more nights for more kids with dreams out there that just want to put all they have into it. Guys like Jeremy Madrox, Joey Vengeance, Mike Dodge, Juice Jennings, Kaden Assad, Ben Boone, Matt Taylor, Chad Cruise are all in there twenties and get better EVERY time I see them and that make me very excited to continue watching and helping them grow. Can’t thank them enough and do EVERYTHING I can for them. Even if it means putting my own wife to work and helping them with their diets.

Huskie: I understand that your wife is a fitness model. Does she help you with training and your diet?

Mason: She does indeed… she competes in figure and physique and is a freak of nature. She’s unbelievably disciplined and of ALL the guys I’ve trained with over the years, she’s easily my best training partner. Nobody pushes me like her, and I think I push her to her limit as well. She actually did a little wrestling herself back in the day and then was my valet for a few years. Man, do I miss that. What a blast!

Huskie: Do you have any advice to those who are looking to get into the wrestling business?

Mason: Learn your craft to the fullest from a reputable trainer with a long standing school and tradition of not opening then closing, leaving you to either find another place or starting to do shows when you’re truly not ready yet. Remember you get what you pay for. Wrestling school is no different than college. Do your want to go to a potential promoter with a degree from Harvard or a community college? Look at it as a profession and a passion and not as a hobby. There are plenty of softball or bowling leagues for that. And finally, like I said in a previous answer…YOU NEVER STOP TRAINING AND LEARNING in this art form. Know that and treat it with respect along with everyone in it that came before you and you will be just fine.

Mason with his wife, fitness model Jayme Orwick-Appleman.

Huskie: Are there any trainers that you would recommend?

Mason: If you’re willing to relocate for a “name” trainer, I suggest Lance Storm, Team 3D or Ohio Valley Wrestling….all three of these are lead by people with direct lines to “the big leagues” but that doesn’t have to be the route to take. You can find some excellent places right here in Ohio too, you start with a great base and a solid Indy company that runs shows to get consistent work and experience, but remember…YOU NEVER STOP TRAINING and no matter where you start you will need to branch out and learn from different people from different places. All that being said, in Ohio it starts with Jeff Cannon’s Big Gunns Academy. Jeff is a old school professional. He has a nice facility and his students. Hell the school speaks for itself, just look at Robby Starr, Joey Vengeance, Kaden Assad, Juice Jennings, Sassy Stephanie and TNA’s Madison Rayne. If you are closer to the Cincinnati/Dayton area you HAVE to go to Heartland Wrestling Association. If you are more of Northerner check out Mega. I believe Chris Cole is still training, and if not, he should be.

Huskie: What companies do you currently work for?

Mason: OCW, WAR, PWO, RWA.

Huskie: Why should a promoter book you?

Mason: Because I give a shit…I mean it. So many guys anymore just half-ass it so much and I don’t. I’m on time, I look as good as I possibly can, I do as I’m told. I work hard in the ring and just as hard out of it trying to make everyone on the show better.

Huskie: Before we wrap things up, is there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Mason: Thank you…over and over a zillion times…THANK YOU!!! Without them, we are nothing! Hell, all of us are just extreme fans ourselves. So extreme we went out and spent thousands of dollars to get trained and do this instead of just watching it. Really in the end, that’s the only difference. We are all intertwined and that makes the relationship so special. I could never put into words how much it means to me to have someone CHOOSE to spend not only their money, but more importantly their time, on letting us go out there and live our dream. Those ten to twenty minutes in front of them makes all the travel, the gym time, the tanning and the manscaping all worth it.

Huskie: Ok Matt, I’d like to thank you once again for spending some time with us here at Wrestle Ohio.

Mason: Anytime!! I’m honored anyone would want to hear me ramble on and on. Thank you so much, this was a blast.

Huskie: Indeed, it was a blast! Alright wrestling fans, be sure to get out and support “Hot Commodity” Matt Mason at a show near you. Until next time, you’ve been Hanging with Huskie!

Wash

Huskie: Wrestling fans, I have a very special guest today. I’m joined by MMA star “The Timebomb” T.J. Wash. T.J., how are you doing and thanks for being here.

Wash: I’m great man and you are definitely welcome! Thanks for the interview!

Huskie: T.J. you’re a pretty well known MMA star around this area. Can you tell us how you got started in MMA?

Wash: I started MMA about seven years ago…Team G-Force was my first home. I trained off and on until they shutdown and then I trained at a few different places until G-Force opened back up again. My first fight was in 2010, where I picked up my first win and in 2011 my MMA career really skyrocketed thanks to my awesome coaches. I am currently 8-1 and ranked in the top 5 lightweight fighters in the Midwest.

Huskie: Something else that is interesting, a wrestling promotion, Bizarro Live sponsors you. How did you partner up with Bizarro Live?

Wash: Pro wrestling has always been a love of mine. Jeremiah from Bizarro is a great guy that I’ve known for several years. Jeremiah was awesome enough to reach out to me about a sponsorship because the MMA world does get expensive with all the athletic commission regulations and traveling. I am truly grateful for all of Bizarro’s support and I proudly wear their logo on my fight shorts!

Huskie: On February 25th you were a special guest at Bizarro’s event All Out Bizarro Attack, and that’s where you were interrupted and disrespected during your interview by “Mr. 9.5” Justin Neal. What are your thoughts on him?

Wash: He’s a little BOY with a BIG EGO. He obviously has no clue who he is messing with. Mr. 9.5? Like I said before it’s more like Mr. .5. They don’t call me The Timebomb for no reason, and he better understand that. I train five days a week and five hours a day. He better recognize the amount of danger he has gotten himself into why he messed with me. It’s a very dangerous situation for him. PERIOD!

Wash delivers a devastating right hand to his opponent.

Huskie: In an recent interview that I conducted with Justin Neal, he said you sucker punched him and that he will get his payback. What do you have to say about that?

Wash: Sucker punched? He is delusional. It’s his own problem he can’t take a punch. My hands are trained to be dangerous. And my submissions are quick and on point. That is something he doesn’t understand. He will never be better than me and any excuses he tries to use to state other wise are invalid. The fans know that and that’s what matters. He better grow up a little before he thinks of trying to get his “payback”.

Huskie: On April 21st at Bizarro’s Royale with Cheese, you were there in attendance. You saw Justin Neal win the Royale with Cheese match. That win earned him a shot at the Intergalactica trophy on May 19th against The American Kickboxer II. It was announced that you will be the special enforcer for that match. Do you have anything to say about that?

Wash: Neal is a cheater. Plain and simple. Whatever is the easiest way to pick up a win is what he does. I can assure you that with me as the enforcer there will be NO CHEATING from him. That’s a PROMISE!

Huskie: T.J. before we run out of time, would you like to say anything to your fans who support your MMA career, and how can they follow you online?

Wash: Absolutely! I appreciate each and every one of them who support me in what I love to do. They are the reason I strive to be the best. Without my fans I wouldn’t feel as though I was accomplishing anything!! I can be found on Facebook…both my personal page and my fan page. Please feel free to friend me and keep up with my MMA career and future fights! Just search T.J. Wash and you’ll find me.
Wash.

My next fight is May 26th at Shimmers Tavern in Covington, Kentucky. Please come out and support me and Team G-Force! Hit me up for ticket details! Thanks again to everyone for their love and support!

Huskie: T.J. once again thanks for your time and I’ll see you on May 19th in Russellville, Ohio at Bizarro.

Wash: Absolutely! Any time my friend! Thank you for the opportunity!

Huskie: Alright fans, be sure to attend Bizarro Live on May 19th in Russellville, Ohio as T.J. Wash is the Special Enforcer in the Main Event as The Intergalactica Champion American Kickboxer II defends against “Mr. 9.5” Justin Neal. Also May 26th, get your tickets and go watch T.J. Wash’s fight at Shimmers in Covington Kentucky.

I learned how to talk from a guy named CK3, but many of you probably know as Krimson. When Bender and I were still tagging as Team Clash, we would travel with CK everywhere, and I got to listen to him spout off at the mouth each and every night once he got into the ring. Eventually, just being around all of that and watching other influences rubbed off on me and I made it my own.

Talking became even easier to me when I started working for PWO and had my own interview segment called “The Rockshow.” It gave me a chance to basically say what I was feeling at any given point in time and get it out there for people to hear. It also made me realize how much I loved it and the fact that I would probably be content with just being a manager rather than a wrestler.

I LOVE wrestling, but if I were a manager I would not miss the pain. It’s all the fun, with a minimal amount of action. Plus, there is NO ONE out there who is considered a great manager right now. The biggest reason for that is because the WWE apparently thinks that letting a woman go out there and scream “EXCUSE ME” for 2 minutes is good enough. Well, it’s not.

I want to be Bobby Heenan dammit! I want to be that guy that sets the standard for managing and is really remembered for random things he said and whatnot. It’s a totally different thing that the business has not REALLY done since the 80’s. I just wonder if the issue is that people feel managers are useless or if there truly is no one that can do it the right way.

The whole point of a manager is to have a guy there to talk for a wrestler who cannot necessarily talk for themselves. This is definitely something that I would LOVE to do. WWE has tried it a few times here and there with people like Ranjin Sighn for the Great Kahli, and Armando Estrada with Umaga, but it never seems to stick at all. I really do not get it.

Ranjin Sighn sucked; he’s a writer for WWE so he belongs in the back, not in the ring. Armando Estrada was FUCKING AMAZING though. I really did see him becoming the next Bobby Heenan, but the WWE put the kibosh on that real quickly. He was just used to help get Umaga over, then sent to ECW to rot until they decided to release him.

Now, the WWE has Vickie on TV, screeching and hollering, but not really ACTUALLY DOING ANYTHING!!! They have also recently brought Abraham Washington back up to TV as “AW” and he seems to be building his little stable. I am very interested to see how that who situation turn out honestly, because I always saw something in him when he was on ECW before.

Long and short of it, we need to bring managers back into the fold of professional wrestling. NOT VALETS, but MANAGERS. These are people that will actually add value to a match by their presence at ringside, not bitches with their hoo-ha’s and ta-ta’s hanging out in order to be seen as “eye candy.” They have moved most of those girls to another role in the company by calling them “divas” or “knockouts.”
