Just three days before HWA May Day, the HWA made their weekly stop at The Sorg Opera House for HWA May Day!
HWA President Tim Tatum kicked things off with two major announcements. The first after reviewing the tape from last week’s Tim Donst vs. Deja Vu match Tim Tatum suspended referee Danny O’Brien until he and the board of directors decided Danny’s future with the company.
Tim Tatum also announced that HWA Cruiserweight Champion Tim Donst decided to protest Danny’s suspension by not appearing at the show and fulfilling his contractually obligated title defense and by doing so, Donst had effectively broke the 30 day rule that states a champion must defend his title at least once a month. Tatum then stated due to that violation he was stripping Donst of the championship and the 4 Way Elimination Match that was originally set up to crown a #1 contender for the Cruiserweight Title would now fill the vacancy.
The 4 Way Elimination Match was set to be the opening contest but as Lightning Tim Lutz made his way to the ring “The Most Dangerous Man in the HWA” Jon Moxley appeared from out of nowhere attacking Lutz and demanding a match between the two be made. Officials tried to stop the carnage but Moxley continued his attack, eventually leaving Lutz unable to compete in the match he was actually scheduled to compete in.
The HWA Tag Team Champions The Hybrids bounced back from a disappointing week last week by defeating Kid and Sid Fabulous, better known as Utterly Fabulous in a non-title match.
Chris The Brain announced they were frantically trying to find a replacement for Tim Lutz for the Four Way Elimination Match.
Jesse Emerson tangled with Ala Hussein in the third match of the evening, with Jesse picking up the win as he heads into Norwood on Saturday night to meet the returning JT Stahr.
It was then time for the Four Way Elimination Match to crown a new HWA Cruiserweight Champion. The match would pit Neverland Ranch native Mr. Jacko against “The Gangsta of Love” Andre Heart (with Nevaeh in his corner) against V-Rad and… against doctor’s orders “Astonishing” Aaron Williams, whose right elbow was still heavily taped after Tim Donst and Jon Moxley nearly broke his arm in the All-Star Tag Team Match earlier this month.
The first elimination was Mr. Jacko who was taken out by Andre Heart.
Andre Heart and V-Rad then joined forces to double team Aaron Williams, making this elimination match a glorified handicap match. However Andre made a cardinal mistake when his opposition this Saturday in Norwood, HWA rookie Ryan Campbell showed up at ringside, distracting Andre and allowing Andre’s “buddy” V-Rad to sneak in, roll up Heart and eliminate him.
Aaron Williams and V-Rad would both impress the fans in attendance as the last two men in the match, Williams for competing at less than 100% and V-Rad for holding his own against one of the HWA’s top stars.
After several close calls, Williams would come out victorious making V-Rad tap out to the cross face, winning the HWA Cruiserweight Championship for a second time. Then in a something of a surprise, V-Rad gave Aaron’s the thumbs up sign as he returned to the locker room.
Up next the red hot combination of Hardcore Religion (Brian Beech & Ron Mathis) was in action against the team of Matt Taylor and Chad Cruise.
Beech and Mathis looked sharp and ready for their title shot at HWA May Day in Norwood as they defeated Cruise and Taylor, but an interesting note… Nevaeh spent a good portion of the match outside with a pen and paper apparently scouting at least one of the participants in the match.
Suspended referee Danny O’Brien came out to the ring to confront referee Brandon Tolle. He even went so far as to shove Tolle, but quickly exited the ring when he heard the entrance music of Deja Vu.
“Deja Vu” Richard Phillips blood was still boiling after the disastrous call made by O’Brien last week and unfortunately for “The Madness” Chris Hall he was directly in Vu’s path of rage.
The two bulls locked horns and while The Madness tested “The Double Dutch Bus” it was not his night and Vu came out the victor.
Then in the main event, HWA Heavyweight Champion Jake Crist battled his older brother Dave Crist.
It was a match the fans demanded via the HWA’s You Make The Match feature and after being postponed two times, the third time proved to be the charm for The Brothers Crist .
The match was exactly what you would expect an even contest between two of the HWA’s best… the action was so intense and so hard fought one referee was not enough, part way through both the Brothers Crist demanded Brandon Tolle be removed from the match and a special referee, the newly crowned HWA Cruiserweight Champion Aaron Williams stepped in for the remainder of the match.
The end came when Jake Crist delivered his patented double stomp onto Dave… and like everyone else he’s ever hit with the move, Jake covered Dave for the 1-2-3.
